David Woodland (Woody) has worked as an Art Director, Matte Painter and Concept artist for Visual Effects on Feature Films and TV series for the past 10 years.

David Woodland has been matte painting for film for 6 years. In February 2010 his work won a VES award for Outstanding Matte Painting in a Broadcast Program/Commercial - Kaiser Permanente 'Emerald Cities'.He worked on the Emmy award winning 'Rome' (HBO) TV series and the cinema commercial 'Guinness Evolution' - a Gold Cannes Award winner.
The portfolio demonstrates his ability to create both poetic and realistic matte images for a film, showing an acute understanding of atmosphere, lighting and sensitive composition. His work demonstrates fine attention to detail.
Photographic skills have a noticeable influence on David's mattes for film, and his ability to visualize a realistic concept frame.
David's previous history as a fine artist, designer and animator, in combination with his work as a photographer, gives him an interesting mix of artistic and technical skills, enabling him to create polished photorealistic images as well as artistic, creative ones. Photography has always been a part of David's artist resource and he has developed a considerable library of images to draw on.
As a practicing fine artist, David has had ceramic works represented in the Australian National Gallery's Craft Collection and is the winner of several prestigious awards, including a Churchill Fellowship and the West Australian Art Prize.
As a production designer for Theatre and Contemporary Dance, David successfully presented his capacity for large-scale visual artwork as an integral presentation of movement and storytelling.
